Saw this movie and thought it was weird. (Especially when the director added that one scene in the guy's private room.) I was expecting a hack 'em slash 'em samurai movie, but hardly got any of that (the only violent scene was the beheading near the beginning). Just a weird story of a young samurai who attracts others guys to him. Any thoughts?

No, it is not strange at all. In fact, one could look at Gohatto as a Japanese 'Billy Budd' in the way that the main boy is so beautiful, that everyone wants him.

I personally loved this movie.

The swordfighting may not have been plentiful, but damn, was it exquisite.
