Hey, I need to buy some quality swordfish steaks in Japan.

Is it easy to get and what is it called in Japanese?

Thanks guys.

Or it's called 'MEKAJIKI'; you can get it at a fish market or fish section of a supermarket.

It is usually packaged as a thick steak. My mother used to cook it in soy based sauce with some vegetables.

Interesting comparison, ffrost nova622.

Swordfish
Scientific classification
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Actinopterygii
Order: Perciformes
Family: Xiphiidae
Genus: Xiphias
Species: gladius
Binomial name: Xiphias gladius Linnaeus, 1758
Swordfish (Xiphias gladius) are large, highly migratory, predatory fish characterized by a long, flat bill in contrast to the smooth, round bill of the marlins...They are the sole member of their family Xiphiidae...While swordfish are cold-blooded animals, they have special organs next to their eyes to heat their eyes and also their brain. Temperatures of 10 to 15 Cツ≫?ケ above the surrounding water temperature have been measured. The heating of the eyes greatly improves the vision, and subsequently improves their ability to catch prey. Out of the 25 000+ species of bony fish, only about 22 are known to have the ability to heat selected body parts above the temperature of the surrounding water. These include the swordfish, marlin, tuna and some sharks...many sources including the United States Food and Drug Administration warn about potential toxicity from high levels of methylmercury in swordfish. The FDA recommends that women who are pregnant or who may become pregnant should eat no more than one seven-ounce serving a month; others should eat no more than one serving a week.

They share certain features as the pointed head protruding above the mouth and the eye & brain heater, but belong to different families in fish taxonomy.

Swordfish steaks cooked ....

outdoors on the grill taste better then a good beef steak for some reason. Good cuts of shark can taste almost as good, and tuna steaks are also great. I'm not a big fish eater, but cooking outdoors seems to make it so much better.

Kajiki Tatsuta-age

Marinade bite-size cubes in soy, sake and grated ginger mixture, lightly dredge potato starch then deep-fry.
