Welcome to Jref, I hope you get more out of it than simply meeting other people who happen to like the same music as you do... you may find that you'll have to talk to more people than that to boaden your horizons concerning Japan.
Japan is a lot of things to many people, but it's always a completely different thing once you actually get there.... I would hold off on completely trashing the United States as an inferior country before you've ever actually visited Japan--- it may seem to be a lot of things to you now that are not in fact true.
A lot of people have been where you are at right now, newly introduced to a subculture in Japan, and dying, needing, of most paramount importance, to cast off the shackles of [insert country here] and move to Japan to live happily ever after as an animator for the rest of their lives...
...take a few minutes and read some posts, study some Japanese, keep in mind that you don't "learn Japanese before you go"... there's a lot to learn, A LOT... about the language, the culture, the people, a good majority of which may be antithesis to what you think of Japan, right now. I hope you do take the time to explore these things.
Take care.
