Spousal Visa?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I've scoured what seems like hundreds of websites and I haven't found anything that says, so:

Do I apply for my spousal visa (I'm moving to Japan to live with my husband) in the US or after I get to Japan?

Is your husband Japanese, or are you going as the spouse of a foreign national?
 
My soon-to-be husband is a Japanese national; I'm the foreign spouse in this case.
 
While I have no clue about the workings of the Japanese Immigration Department, I'd say that logically, your husband-to-be should apply for a spousal visa for you.

And I'm just guessing, but I'd think that you'd need to be officially married and have a nice set of pictures of the festivities and your married life to prove your marital relationship to the bureaucrats we all love, before you can even apply for a spousal visa.

Well from my understanding of everything I've read, I am the one who applies for my spousal visa; my fiance just told me he will register our marriage by himself while I am in the states. Then I need to apply for a Certificate of Eligibility, and after I recieve that I can go to the Japanese Embassy/Consulate closest to me to apply for a spousal visa, provided I give them all the documentation/proof of our relationship they need.
 
Looks to me that you have it figured out, to be honest.

At least, everything looks sound to me.

Does anyone know of a fourm thread about getting married in japan? I am an Australian man and my girlfriend is japanese and we want to get married in japan in 4 weeks from now. I know i need to take my passport, birth certificate, and after I arrive I must obtain a "Certificate of No Impediment" from the Australian embassy. Is that all that is required? Is a criminal record a problem?
 
I wouldn't think a criminal record would pose a problem in getting a spousal visa approved.

However, you might be put on a list of some sort and would probably be more likely to become a suspect if anything happens that would cause police involvement.

Getting married takes 10 minutes, her koseki, your certificate of no impediment, and a couple of signatures from witnesses.

Getting a spousal visa is a whole different matter.
Have you or your wife even talked to the Aussie embassy? Or looked at the MOFA site? Here.

What on earth possesses anyone to offer totally uninformed, baseless conjecture on such a topic? How could anyone possibly imagine that it would be helpful? Seriously, I'd like to know.
 
Mostly because it seemed logical to me.

A logical hint amounts to at least something, I would think.

If it doesn't, I at least let the person in question know that I am just making assumptions.
