Why did I make a thread with sporks as the topic? Because I saw it on another board, and thought it was a great subject. What makes a spork? Is it the dedication of doing the jobs of two utensils at once? Or is it the ability to be an everyday plastic utensil by day, and a supernatural weapon by night? Because everyone knows that sporks are the ideal weapons when confronting zombies, ghosts, wraiths, demons, and other monsters. Let's hear what you have to say!

I Think....

many of the old martial arts weapons were dual purpose. Farming impliments first turned into weapons or protection devices second.

I think the spork is the perfect metaphor for western thought and philosophy. It is dual purpose, yet perform inadequately at both. It is mass produced. Mass marketed and yet not generally sold directly to the consumer. usually it is wrapped in a sterile package. Although lightweight and durable, and made of a material that will persist for millenia, it is designed for a single use, disposable, and its strength is often insufficient for its intended function. You can't give one as a gift, yet you accept them for free all over the place. They tend to be totally democratic- available to both rich and poor and there appears to be no second tier "nicer" premium luxury level of this item.

It makes a good mashed potato flinger.

I just wanted to say that I think it's awesome that the only two people who have responded to this have been way older than me. Not saying that's bad! I expected a lot of nonsense responses, but you guys blew my bogus little comment away. Praise be to you. 👍 👍 👍

I teach at a public school. We have sporks in the cafeteria. I gaze in wonder every time I see one.

I didnt know that sporks were effective against ghosts, and such. I always thought that they were the brainchild of a group of computer geniuses, created to confound the masses. Oh well,

You didn't know!? You mean you've never heard the expression "Walk softly and carry a big spork"!?

Eerr...yeah...neither have I. Just testing you. 👍

The spork is the defender and defeater of life窶ヲ

except eating ramen窶ヲ plain old does not work.

There is a 25 foot tall spork outside the biology building at Kansas state University.

I was thinking it might be kinda fun to have silver sporks and fine china compartment trays made. I'd like to see my family's faces at Christmas dinner when served on such finery.

i've never used a spork before...but if u drink soup, doesnt the liquid leak from the "fork" half?

Absolutely. And the little fork tines are too short to pick anything up with. I call it a multi-useless utensile. :-)

I think it'd be much better if they made the tines thinner. More like a fork. But they're always so fat that you can't stab anything.

I had a friend that actually choked on one of the prongs of his spork when it broke off while he was trying to eat steak.

Those things are dangerous, if you ask me.

Indeed. I lost my faith in them as a competant utensil when mine broke while eating a McDonalds pancake. A pancake!

You know whats really odd? Go to a Denny's or something, and get one of those plastic-wrap thingies with the plastic utensils in it; why would they have a spork combined with a normal fork? I mean, if they are gonna do that, why not nix the spork, and put an actual plastic spoon in the mix?

Maybe humans are comforted in knowing that even if they're eating something as docile as soup, or a helpless helping of peas, they can still stab something if they want to.

Just a thought...and I'm no Freud.

wat the hell was McArthur smoking? lol *sweatdrop* sporks look funny...

Whats with all the sweating? Do you have a glandular problem? lol
