Spoken with vs told that too.

Hi all.

My text book says やまだにははなすべき{では/じゃ}なかった。means shouldn't have told that to (particularly) Yamada. Wouldn't it be more accurate for this translation to be "shouldn't have spoken with" instead of "told that to"?

While ～に話す is unilateral, ～と話す is mutual. That's why it's translated as "to tell something to~", not "to speak/talk with~" there.
