Soundtracks

Enough with the is X better than Y and group Z is cute, what about soundtrack albums. Anyone there know any good ones? I'm a nut for these things. For example I am sat here listening to the Evangelion soundtrack and after that there is Evangelion III disc to follow (I'm currently witing for No.2). The only problem I find is tracking them down, especially for older films and anime. I am currently debating whether or not to get the Gunslinger Girl soundtrack, but it looks like I can only get that straight from Japan. Thank the deities for amazon.

I enjoy the Byakuyakou OST It's from a Japanese drama.

Film OSTs:

Akira OST
Ghost In The Shell OST (amazing)
Ghost Dog OST (if you're into hip hop)
Kill Bill OST
Pulp Fiction OST (kicks ***)

Basically, I like OSTs because when listening to them, I instantly recall all the good scenes and the atmosphere of these great movies.

Game OSTs:

The orchestral version of the Final Fantasy VII OST is absolutely great.
Even the original MIDI-compositions are so darn catchy, can't stop humming them although it's five years since I've played the game.

Dune 2 had some nice MIDIs, Doom too.

Quake titles' OST are cool because they are mostly form Nine Inch Nails and fit perfectly.

I have the Ghost in the Shell, Stand Alone Complex music for both Series and the spin off Be human. Great tracks, but then Yoko Kanno does some very good music
Tarantino always seems to do well for movie soundtracks
One of my favourites is the OST for Betty Blue.

Since I write for a fan magazine, my OST list is related to that. The Japanese OSTs I have are:

Godzilla (1954) (2 different releases including one that contains all Godzilla films from 1954 through 1964)
Godzilla 2000: Millennium (1999)
Godzilla x Megaguirus (2000)
Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Daikaiju Sokougeki (2001)
Godzilla x Mechagodzilla (2002)
Godzilla x Mothra x Mechagodzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. (2003)

Gamera 3 (1999)

There's also a single CD from Mink (short for "Made In Korea") that has the song "Eternal Love" from "Gamera: The Little Braves" (2006).

Casshern OST and Appleseed OST were two very good recent soundtracks.
Appleseed for lot's of Boom Boom Satellites, Casshern had Hikaru Utade, Hyde, Mondo Grosso, Shiina Ringo, The Back Horn, Glay, Acidman and others.

I only have one game soundtrack and that's from Out Run. The three main songs from this classic racing game are played by a live band on this soundtrack. Great stuff. Especially when you're driving...

The Casshern one sounds promising - I like Utada, and The Back Horn, and Glay.
Y'know I don't own one single soundtrack! ☝ Somehow I never got into that kind of thing - I prefer just to get albums. Dunno why really; maybe I should branch out.

'Bladerunner' - Vangelis on top form.

'The Big Lebowski' - fun soundtrack with a few examples of 'proper' music that I might never have heard otherwise(e.g Bob Dylan - 'The Man in Me')

'Paris,Texas' - Ry Cooder's atmospheric steel guitar-fest. Beautiful.
