DISCLAIMER: Now, before you think that this is a complaint about Japan, I'd like to clarify that I'm more bemused and baffled by this behaviour than anything else.
After living here for some time now (primarily in Tokyo), I'm wondering if someone can please explain some bizarre public behaviour I've seen here.
1) Puke Pillow: Get so blasted that you pass out on the street (usually a well-traveled one) and sleep in your own vomit. I've visited many cities throughout the world, and I have to say that I've never seen so much puke in my life.
2) Diggin for Treasure, Mm..Tastes Good: On more than several occasions (as if one wasn't enough), I've seen men and boys on the JR trains pick their nose and taste their "findings." Not only was I thoroughly disgusted with this, but after a while I started feeling rather irritated that the offender made no attempts to hide his disgusting habit!
3) The World's My Toilet: Usually drunk (but not necessarily the rule), the offender will unzip and relieve him or herself (yes, I saw a woman do it once) either along a building (men, obviously) or in/around a bush. Japan offers probably the cleanest public toilets I've ever seen, and yet, somehow, they seem to be out of grasp of these individuals.
4) Beware the Hidden Hand: What's with the public groping? How did this begin and why is it so out of control? And I'm not just talking about the trains. I was at a club and this guy was trying to feel up my friend (woman). He missed her and hit pay dirt with with me. Let's just say that I hope his hand is all healed up by now.
I realize that some of you don't live in Tokyo and maybe this is a Tokyo-specific phenomenon, but any insight would help me to ride out by time here with relative easiness.
Thanks in advance.
