So, I've just procured my first smartphone. So very awesome that I'm wondering why I didn't get one sooner. How about y'all? How prevalent is their use in your life?

Nice to see someone who updates.

I'm still using a 6 year old TracFone and have yet to figure out all the do-dads on it. Even worse, in 6 years , it's only used 20 minutes time , LOL. Hope you enjoy it Thor!

My current Docomo Mova is going out of style (literally, this coming March) so I am forced to upgrade into something more current. I will probably get a smartphone but a lot of my friends have been using SoftBank and they love it so I may end up switching (loyal Docomo customer for over seven years, heh). I am not one for fancy gimmicks or features really: texting, the occasional photo upload to Facebook, and dialing are all I use it for.

I don't recommend SoftBank for a switch from docomo unless you want an iPhone. If you are OK with an Android, then I recommend staying with them. Their service is much better, albeit more expensive. There is always AU if you want something on the same level, plus the iPhone is now available through them.

To be specific, I signed a two year contract with US Cellular. I got a free HTC Merge(Android) out of it. I also grabbed one for my little brother, because I'm an awesome older sibling to him. The phone works great. It isn't the best Android smartphone, but it can certainly run what I want it to. It is so goddamn awesome to have a 1 ghz processor and 512 MB of RAM in this small package. My first computer had somewhere around a 60 mhz processor, so this is goddamn awesome. ^.^

I would love to have a smartphone, especially because I surf a lot on the internet. Being a apple fan and because I am getting a bit upset by google I would definitely buy an iphone.

It's pretty interesting that the Iphone 4s sales this good, because when it came out everyone was quite disappointed about it. Android phones are doing pretty good in Japan as well.
