Hello,

I was contacted by a representative of a Japanese corporation to start doing business in Canada. Could you help me verify this is a legitimate business ?
The information I have :
Representative name : Ann Luo (would be located in Hong Kong)
Company name : Showa Cho Ltd
Address : 542-2, Oshikoshi, Showa cho, Nakakoma gun, Yamanashi, Japan
Website : SHOWA CHO LIMITED

Company info per website :
We are a heavy equipment sales and manufacturing company based in Yamanashi, Japan. As one of the growing manufacturing base for motor grader, our sales amount has taken the leap in the industry for years We are available to help with consultancy services on your projects. Don't hesitate to contact us.
Head Office: 542-2, Oshikoshi, Showa cho, Nakakoma gun, Yamanashi, Japan. CN:4000020193844 Phone: +81-553471722 Branch Office: Rm B 8/B Mai Wah Industrial Building 2-9 Wah Sing Street Kwai Chung, Hong Kong Phone: +852-34125400 Email: info@showacholtd.com

Communications appear of good quality. Website is basic and domain was registered 2021-01-05 but refers to a 2011-2021 history (which is not sounding good).

Please help me.
Thank you.

It's fake. Domain was only registered this year. Web page is generic/English only. And all the "products" are from other companies.
For example this Volvo Grader.

Most products displayed on their site are manufactured by Wirtgen:

As mdchachi pointed out, there are no Japanese-language pages; Showa-cho is a PLACE name, not a company name; also, no Japanese company would register a URL containing LTD. Hogwash. Upgraded to "Scam".

But we should award them some points for placing the address to the city hall in Showa-Cho. That took a little bit of effort.

Yes, hats off to those guys; definitely the best fake site we've come across so far.

Showa Cho Ltd SCAM - BEWARE
I was contacted and hired as an external accountant by a representative of a Japanese corporation ( Showa Cho Limited).
Representative name : Ann Luo
Company name : Showa Cho Ltd
Website : SHOWA CHO LIMITED
They hired me as an external accountant with a professional contract. As their external accountant they then sent me a fake cheque of $18,000 and asked me to deposit it in my business account and pay their vendor off with that money.
Unfortunately, after five days of depositing the cheque into my bank account the available balance matched the current balance and accordingly, I paid their vendor $16,000 because I was sure that the cheque had cleared. However, on that same day in the evening the cheque was bounced, and I lost $16,000 due to this scam.
Be extremely cautions and aware of online companies looking to make contracts. Always double check and meet the company representative personally.
Secondly, DO NOT DEPOSIT ANY CHEQUES IN YOU BANK ACCOUNT THAT DOES NOT BELONG TO YOUR COMPANY.
These are very professional scammers with a lot of background history, google searches, etc. Please be careful.
