Shikoku - Bus Matsuyma-Kochi-Shishikui

Hi there,
i'm going to shikoku in July. So far everything is set. I'm just trying to find out about busses between Matsuyama-Kochi and Kaifu. I found out that there is a bus from Matsuyama to Kaifu which should be easy to find. however, as i don't speak or read japanese I've got problems with the timetable for the bus from Kaifu to Shishikui. I've got this website but can't figure out departure times, stops and so on. could anybody help me out?

Hello, and sorry for not responding to your PM sooner. There are trains between Kaifu and Shishikui about every hour for most of the day and evening.

You can use this page to find a time that meets your needs:
Hyperdia Kaifu -> Shishikui

However, I have never heard of a bus between Kaifu and Matsuyama before. Could you show me where you found information about that?

Trains Kochi Shishikui

Hi Jimmy, no problem for the "delay". I've still got some time to figure out how to get around However, I am surprised to hear of a train beteween Kochi an Shishikui - none of the travel guides (print or online) do mention this. But hey, that's cool! Thanks a lot!
I've found the information for the Bus Matsuyama-Kochi on the Kochi transport webpage www kochi-kia.or.jp/english/kochitransport.html (I can't post full URLS :sorry: ) scroll down to the Kochi Matsuyama part. There are JR and private busses (Wahle Express). Hope it's still up to date ...
Now the only thing that remains is to find a nice place in the Iya Valley. I've read about a youth hostel in Awa Ikeda. just that you can't book it online... well we'll have a try. In general, is it rather busy at the end of July in Shikoku?
I'm really exited and would love to go right away!

i mixed up Kochi and Kaifu
Jimmy, you once posted the link to a bus service form Kochi to Kaifu which goes round Cape Maruto. It's only in Japanes. Could you help me out with this?

Ok, got it.

The first link is for the weekday eastbound timetable, and the third link is for the Sunday+Holiday eastbound table.

The first column is the departure time from Harimaya-bashi in Kochi city (はりまや橋)
The sixth column is the arrival time in Aki (安芸営業所)
The seventh column is the departure time from Aki (it looks like you need to transfer there)
The final column is Kannoura seawall (甲浦岸壁), which is about 20 minutes' walking distance from Shishikui.

All in all, it looks like that bus ride takes about 4 hours. I certainly don't envy the public transportation experience you're in for. Shishikui is one of the hardest-to-reach places in Japan.

It's also possible to take the train from Kochi to Nahari, and then pick up that same bus route the rest of the way to Kannoura. Nahari station (奈半利駅) is the 9th column from the left on that timetable.

You can find information on trains from Kochi to Nahari here:

It looks like that would usually involve taking a 20 minute trolley ride to Gomen, followed by a 1 hour train ride to Nahari. Then the bus ride from Nahari is about 1 hour, 40 minutes.
