Saying the date, where to put the day.

Hi,

I've been learning how to say and write dates in Japanese. I'm clear on writing the day, month and year, e.g.

Today is the 24th October 2012: 今日は２０１２年１０月２４日です。

But if I want to put in the day of the week 水曜日 where does it go?
今日は２０１２年１０月２４日水曜日です。
OR
今日は水曜日２０１２年１０月２４日です。
OR something else?

「今日は２０１２年１０月２４日水曜日です。」 is correct I believe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but that's how I've seen it written.

For example, I found this site with the headline: "2012年10月24日 水曜日 王子ジャグリング ナイト開催！" (The Juggling Knight Prince will be held Wednesday, October 24, 2012!)

I have a second, related question about typing dates in Japanese. In a date, 24日 is にじゅうよっか, but how do people normally enter this using IME? For example when I type using the standard IME on my Mac, if I type "24よっか" and hit the space bar to get the kanji I end up with ２４四日. To get 24日 I have to type ２４にち which gives me the right kanji, but by entering an incorrect reading.
Obviously I can type out the whole date にじゅうよっか which gives me the right numerals and kanji but this seems a bit long-winded. For example, having to type "twenty fourth" to display "24th" in English would be inconvenient.

Try 24か.
It's not surprising for ２４四日, since 24よっか is "24 + 4日".
