I don't think they're gonna try to match the original. Over time, texts (visual/written) under go transformation to suit the time's beliefs.
Anywho, here's an article from Newtype magazine:
Nobutaka Kasama tells us his reason for remaking Kurosawa's movie. "When the original was released, people were still suffering the wounds of World War II. The audience empathised with the villagers who stood up on their own even though they were scared of the rogue warriors. I think this type of situation has something in common with the current era, after the collapse of the bubble economy [in Japan]."
Even though they have something in common, audiences in different time periods undoubtedly have different attitudes. Japanese people living in the aftermath of WWII found hope in Shichinin no Samurai . The staff has tried a variety of things to convey that hope in this modern age.
Atsuhiro Tomioka, who is working on series organisation, tells us about it. "We're trying to make something that is entertaining. The show is nothing but action and swordfighting [laughs]!" Of course, they're not going to be ordinary swordfights. They're going for a "modern" swordfight - but what exactly is that? Tomioka says, "I can't tell you yet, but it's going to be very surprising."
They're working on this show with dedication and high spirits and are putting enormous effort into illustrating each character. "It's possible for the characters to live their lives differently if they want, but they choose to be samurai and to remain samurai. The reason for that is - and I don't want this to be taken the wrong way - they want to wage war. You could also say that it's the only way they know how to live. They've prepared themselves for killing, and they don't even try to escape the guilt of doing so; they just accept it. Fighting to protect people means killing. That's their reality. I want to face that reality and illustrate it instead of avoiding it."
