Sakura Tree

Hello. It's been bothering me for a while now. I've been looking for how to grow a Japanese Sakura Tree. Can anyone help me out, or atleast give me some leads on where to start? Oh, I posted this in the art section because I believe that all things have an art in them, and tree's contain a certain art that can't be replicated, only experienced.

yeah id also like to know if cherry trees grow in texas.

In Japan people buy young trees and plant them in their garden.
I assume it should be the same in other countries as growing a tree from a seed (or stone in case of cherry?) could be difficult.
Climate and soil are also important for any gardening, if you are very much interested and really want to start, I'd like to recommend to post at this forum, where there are many professionals and people with a lot of experience.

I don't know about in TX, but they do well here in IN. I've had a Yoshino for 6-7 yrs now I think. It's over 10 Ft tall now.

Since it did so well, this spring I decided to plant 50 more. A few things went wrong -

1st The nursery shipped them in full leaf, despite my dormant request and their acknowledgment that they would ship them dormant. Kept in a cooler heck, greenhouse was more like it.
(I have been in the business for years and every last one of the thousands of trees that have come though my hands has always arrived dormant and done well. I will never deal with that particular nursery again.)

2nd We got very bad freezes and snow fall as late as Aril... Not good on trees in full leaf.

3rd Our early spring (after the late freezes were over) was very wet... too wet.

4th Our summer was very hot and dry. Since they were planted way back on the property, there was no good way to water them.

So the poor things were stressed in transite, frozen to bits, water logged, and then roasted.

All in all, it was just not a good year for planting anything out.

Ordinarily, they would have been fine planted here in clay soil with full sun.

My older tree is now producing offsets from the roots (not suckers exactly). So I will use these to replace over time the 3/4 of the trees I lost this year.

Very much want to plant a Sakura Tree...



Hi Anyone...
I live in Canada and have been looking everywhere for a Sakura Tree or Sakura Tree seeds (latin: Prunus X Yedoensis)
I'm in love with the tree and no one sells them in Canada, though it is possible to find the Pink relative tree that is called Kwanzan or latin: Prunus Kwanzan.
I've just recently tried to buy seeds from a nursery in New York and they told me that the Canadian Government has placed restrictions on the import of this beautiful tree.

If there is anyone out there that is willing to send me about 40 seeds, that I will hope will grow, Please... I will pay the price.
