Rosetta stone is ****!

After a lot of searching I've managed to torrent a Rosetta stone Japanese. Been trying to get one for a long while hoping it would really help my studies. Its just like playing the card game snap you'll have hito, neko, inu, uma and you have to click which picture is the ******* cat! Then moves on too adding the first particle when it says 'hito to neko' so if you dont speak Japanese you can kinda infer it means 'person and cat' after a while but then its complex sentences involving people and cats with no explanation of what the new words even mean lol... Seems to be no explanation of particles, grammar or rules at all, just monkey see monkey do kind of method.. No understanding is there though. Seems very silly to me unless I'm missing some sound files or something..

I have a legit version and found the same thing. I wish they would have added the option to have a more detailed explanation or a dictionary reference for the words you learn.

Then it would be some other product and not Rosetta Stone.

I think they've latched much too firmly onto their namesake, expecting people to sort of intuit languages. They overlook the fact that decoding the original Rosetta Stone was far from an easy and intuitive process. It was a long, hard, brain-racking slog for some very intelligent, highly educated, and rather gifted people.

Expecting Joe Average to intuit a language from their materials and invoking the name of the Rosetta Stone is really just an excuse for not going to the bother and expense of preparing proper supplementary and explanatory materials. The whole thing has always struck me as somewhat of a gyp.

I'm thinking I may perhaps have an old version.. Rosetta stone apparently started in 1992... Computer graphics were pretty much stone slab with chalk on back in those days, the graphics on mine seem very crap and pixelated. 1992 and we're in 2011 so even if they released an updated Rosetta stone Japanese every few years there should at least be half a dozen versions right? Hmm...

Rosetta Stone is rubbish. You'll do yourself a favour if you nuke every festering, pestiferous, filthy byte of it from your computer and order some books.
