Science Robot researcher Hiroshi Ishiguro showcase future with androids at Osaka Expo

Will humans coexist with androids and humanoid robots in 50 years?

Renowned robotics expert Professor Ishiguro Hiroshi from Osaka University will provide insights at the Osaka Kansai Expo 2025, which begins in April. Ishiguro has contributed to the design of one of the expo's key pavilions, centred around the theme of "amplifying lives." Speaking to reporters on 19th February, he revealed that the exhibition will delve into humanity's historical efforts to animate figures like "Dogu" and "Haniwa."

The exhibition will also depict a possible future in which androids have become an integral part of society and daily life. In the pavilion, adult androids called "Yamatoroids" and child androids called "Asukaroids" (both named after ancient words for areas in Japan) will welcome visitors with eye contact and smiles. Mobile robots decorated with moss, bamboo and traditional "washi" paper will also guide visitors inside the pavilion.
