Sorry for your loss. Those of us who have international marriages end up with a dilemma on spending time with family. This year my wife lost both her father and her grandmother. Her father had a stroke spring last year a couple months before we were coming, at least we got to spend the summer there. I think this is related to the start of her push to move back to Japan which is understandable and her thoughts of larger support network, retirement costs, health care etc. came up later. I miss it very much so I am for it. My father is 80. I know he does not have a lot of years left. Her mother is only 69. Hopefully we get time with both.
 
My in-laws are in mainland China, so I can certainly empathize with you. I wish you and your wife the best, and I hope you continue to work together to find a mutually agreeable solution.
