Travel Rent a House in Japan!

Hello guys!,
I'm new on the forum and I'm glad to found this place for speak about japan things!
I want to rent a house in Japan (house or apartment, but I prefer a house if possible) I searched for a cheapest area and I finded Hokkaido as the most cheapest places, is that right or are more or same cheapest areas than Hokkaido?
I need all information you can provide to me, I'll grateful it! I'm more interested in a rural life than city..
Any tips?

Do you speak and read Japanese? At what level?

What type of visa will you have to enter Japan?

Do you plan to work while I Japan or are you rich enough , you will not need any job?

Since this is the travel forum for this site, I have to wonder whether you are planning to live here or (as the section was designed) just traveling on vacation. Which is it?

If you are just a tourist, how long will you be here? It is unlikely that you will find any apartment or house to rent for just a few weeks. Rental contracts are for residents and are usually 2 years long.

It's very hard to rent without a person signing with you as a guarantor. Wherever you live, you will likely need a native to sign with you. For some reason, I was able to get an apartment in Okinawa without it, but in Hokkaido , my father-in-law had to do so.

If you are staying just for several weeks or a few months, you should try so-called "Weekly Mansion" "Monthly Mansion" - the word "mansion" should not be taken literally, it simply means apartment - basically you do not need a guarantor, and it is cheaper than staying at a hotel.
However, a house usually is not available for such a short term rental, and even apartment houses/rooms for a short term rental becomes fewer the further into the countryside you go.

My plans are to live there a few months, maybe up to 1 year.

This one is for 113€ and the size are fully enough for me, I can rent apartments like this?

I was able to get an apartment in Okinawa without it, but in Hokkaido, my father-in-law had to do so.

I try to find the called "weekly or monthly mansions" on jp websites like suumo or chintai, but maybe is a bit difficult, sometimes google translator is not fully working and is kinda hard to find something. Is this method cheapest? like the apartments in hokkaido I showed in top of post.

I'm sorry but I answered franks questiom saying in my second post i want to stay there few months up to 1 year, visa is not a problem but i dont want to waste excesive on a apartment, chosing a cheap one like i linked on 2nd post.

If I say VISA is not a problem is for I have one and have money for that of course.
I sayed it im intereseted on Cheapest apartments, I heard Hokkaido is really cheap, rooms there are for 10,000 JPY Month or something, 10,000 - 20,000 JPY are the range.

Money? It only costs 4000 yen to get the visa stamp. And, why are you being so secretive about what sort of visa you have?

BTW, it's important to know which visa type you have. Most of the time you will need a guarantor, which usually means an employer.

I live in Hokkaido . Most of it is rural farming land. The few bigger cities will have apartments and houses that are cheaper than in Tokyo, yes, but forget it if you are thinking 10,000-20,000 yen per month. Nothing here is that cheap.

If you are Estonian, you don't need a visa (see here) and can stay up to 90 days.

As Glenski mentioned in the post #3 , you need to be resident to rent a room/house and the contract is usually for 2 years.
If you're a tourist and staying for 2-3 months, the guest houses listed in the post #9 by thomas would be the best option.
It is cheaper than hotels/hostels where you need to pay by day, weekly/monthly fee is cheaper, considering that the rooms are furnished and costs for basic such as gas/water/electricity are included.

I don't think this is just a Japan thing. You couldn't turn up in the UK and get a rental contract for just a couple months through a normal letting agent. You'd have to go through some specialist holiday/short-let company.

It's not that uncommon to require a guarantor, here, either, particularly for certain classes of tenants. Students, for example, for obvious reasons. And yes, for foreign students, that means a UK resident guarantor (or larger amounts of rent paid up front).

I wonder what sort of things you could find on services like airbnb, but I agree that the guest-house style rental mansions (such as those linked by thomas) is probably the most affordable solution. I believe Sakura House was a popular option.

Areks, you said that you're traveling to Japan and already have a visa, but aren't sure exactly how long you're going to stay (though it could be up to a year). What kind of visa do you have that will allow you to stay for a year?
