My wife has permanent residency with re-entry permit that allows her to stay outside Japan for 5 years.
She left in 2019, informed the authorities about it, and had a relative receive her mail.
However, that relative is leaving Japan too, so any mail could be lost after that.
Has anyone been in this situation? Are there any services that "rent out" addresses/mailboxes and then scan or forward incoming email?

We'd prefer not to ask friends for help with it, as it is a burden and can get complicated in many ways.

Danke Box offers private mailboxes. They specialise in forwarding items purchased online, so you should ask them about your letters. Their services cost 1,575 JPY a month.

A search for virtual mailbox services in Japan returns many companies, but I don't know how reliable they are.
