Rendering ゲートウェイ into Romaji

Is there a preferred way to render ゲートウェイ into Romaji? Google renders it as gētou~ei but this seems a little strange.

Use the original English spelling (gateway). This is the generally accepted rule when transliterating loan words back into their original form.
