Hi,

I will definitely be buying Heisig's Remembering the Kanji I, but I was wondering if I should get the 2001 version or the 1990 version? I was just thinking that maybe the new version left out some goodies that were in the old version like textbooks tend to do when they update. Otherwise I will get the new one.

Have you heard of the book leaving out any goodies or are you just guessing?

Your best bet is probably to buy the 2007 version when it comes out.

Yeah after all, that's what updates are for :D

By the way, I'll see if I can find that one too

No, I've not heard, I was just guessing. I wonder how long it'll be 'til the '07 version does come out.

Supposedly in May. Two more months. In the meantime, you can get started on the first 250 characters in the PDF that's available for free from the publisher.

I'm hoping in the new version 喪 isn't written with 衣 on the bottom in the handwritten part, like it is in the one I have (not sure which year it's from, though).

I'm loving that book!!
I just got it and I already learnt something like 20 kanjis easily, and I can remember them.

Great, sounds great...I'm debating if I actually want to wait for the updated one or not. I mean it's kanji; it doesn't seem like the general-use kanji would change at all in 6 years. Does anyone think it will change much? I guess that's kind of a dumb question because it's all up to the publisher and a secret at this point.

The 4th edition contains dozens of misprints that should be fixed in the new edition. That's the main difference. There's not likely to be any change in the kanji it contains.

I don't forsee you having a lot of luck finding a copy of an older edition anyway.

OK, I think I'll go ahead and just buy the current version, then. Thanks!

Buy 'em all! Unless you are like me, and then buy the oldest one. (No money
:( ) If that fails, but the newest one when it comes out.
