Questions for when visiting Tokyo...

Ok I'm getting ready to go on a trip to Tokyo in about 6 months or so and I was wondering how much money people would suggest to bring with? I'm not going on a business trip or anything, just a chance for me to see some of Japan (mainly Tokyo) and its wonderful sites it offers. I know some things can't leave Japan and I plan to try and buy up some goods to decorate my house with. Nothing special since I already have a nice rice bowl set and my Sake set.
I was also wondering if anyone would have any suggestions for tour guides or if I could get to know someone in Tokyo maybe me and my gf can meet up with and possibly stay with during our visit. Any other tips would be helpful as well. I do have to warn you though I do not dress normal. I'm ones of those young adults who dress in the bondage pants with chains and stuff. So I need an open minded tour guide if possible...

I would suggest you get some guide books and maps from the Japan National Tourist Organization (JNTO). They may be able to help you find a tour guide, but I really don't feel that it is necessary. If you have one or two good books on sites in Tokyo and a good map (most important as the address system is weird), you should be okay. I think if you have a lot of time to explore the city, you probably don't need a guide. If you're tight on time, you might want to schedule up something for a paid tour so you can at least get to see some of the most popular (tourist) places in Tokyo, since some of these places may be a bit difficult to find, and you don't want to waste time if you're not staying too long.
