Morphling-san, Toritoribe-san...........you two are excellent; this makes me want to get into a more regular (read: at all) habit of brushing up on my Japanese. That's all I wanted to say.

BJG is the most authoritative Japanese grammar reference book in the world. It is the only grammar book used by Harvard and top universities.
Everyone on this forum should like stick to BJG series and make reference to BJG so that we all have a common, quick and reliable reference.
Accusing BJG as being "wrong" is a pretty audacious statement.

It might be the most authoritative book for non Japanese speakers like yourself but nobody in Japan cares. It's an English book for cry out loud.
I have already pointed out the mistake which is a limitation on the authors English (they are Japanese after all) and an errata that needs to be corrected. To say 自使 is the same as 他動 only makes an *** out of yourself as both toritoribe san and myself have proven time and time again.

You deleted the link to a copy of a page of the textbook, but I can point out where the textbook is mistaken (for instance, although the textbook gives an example 食べさす, why it's considered wrong as Modern Japanese).
