Hello,
I watched an anime. Since I don't understand japanese, I could only read the english subtitles.
In this movie, a young men said to a girl: "I'll give you a blessing".
Thereafter, this girl asked to her mother what that means.
She answers: "It's like how happy l was that you were born".
I was confused because this is not at all the meaning that I give to "blessing".
I would agree with the Wikipedia's definition: The infusion of something with holiness, spiritual redemption, divine will, or one's hope or approval.
I don't see how someone other than a priest (holiness), or your parent (approval) can give you a blessing.
So I thought that maybe this is a japanese word that can't be translated.
So I listened carefully and heard the character say: shukufuku (祝福), which Google translated to "Blessing".
So what do you think. Does shukufuku (祝福) have the same meaning than "blessing" for japanese people?
Or is it simply the movie that is wrong or weird?
Thank you
