Hi. I am assuming that quite a few members here actually live in Japan, so I am interested in the responses this will get. Puroresu literally means Pro Wrestling in Japanese, and I keep a firm interest in Puroresu. Now before you think differently, Japanese Pro Wrestling is very different to it's American equivalent. The fighters do hit each other, and the emphasis is far more on match quality than silly storylines etc. I wondered if anyone here has an interest in it already, and am very interested in how big it is in Japan, to the average person. The business is slowly dieing due to the rocket in papularity of shoot fighting in Japan, namely K-1 and Pride. My interest is in New Japan Pro Wrestling.

😌 I don't live in japan, but I like Puroresu. Is FMW Puroresu. I like japanese hardcore wrestling, and japanese sumo wrestilng. I love sumowrestilng. have you been to a Puroresu match?

Well, I'm going to New Japan Pro Wrestling's "Wrestling World 2005" in the Tokyo Dome on the 4th of January. Nakamura Vs Tanahashi... YES!

My vote defintely goes to the New Japan. But no puroresu programs on prime time here now.

A small group, "Hustle", is applying the WWE way, but I don't think they're popular.

I admit I find all wrestling a bit ridiculous. To me it's not much more than grown men in tights screaming and jumping on each others faces with their 'full body weight' and then miraculously coming back from what would normally be a life threatening injury to somehow beat the other guy. However, what I have seen has given me no indication that Japanese wrestlers "hit each other" any more than the wrestlers (or should it be actors?) do in the US.
