I really, really, really, very much do not appreciate getting a popup every time I log into jref recently. Is this something that is being done on purpose? Or should this not be happening?

I use a pop-up blocker on Google, but I have noticed the recent trend of Pop-ups on the Jref index page. Why have they suddenly started?

I use AdAware software and have to shut it off to use JREF; the point being I get no pop-ups so far. Wonder why some get them and others don't? I use Windows XP Pro and regular IE for a browser.

Yes, I've started getting pop-ups when I login too.

I had switched to Firefox about a year ago and stopped getting them completely, but Firefox got to be somewhat of a hassle for me(for various reasons), so I switched back to IE. As soon as I switched back, the pop-ups began.

if you know how to go into the folders that store your cookies, erase them all just before you log on to JREF. I've been doing that to prevent cookies from using up my hard drive space. I think the cookies serve to tell which pop-ups to show you; without cookies, MAYBE no pop-ups??

Frank... Cookies use up an insignificant amount of space. They can at times be malicious and cause stuff to happen that you don't want, but really space is no issue.

I use Firefox also. At work, I have the popups in Firefox because I have cookies automatically removed every time I close the browser. And yes, (at least one of) it does bypass Firefox's regular pop-up blocker. I'm very certain the ad checks whether a certain cookies exists, and if not, it'll pop-up the ad and generate a cookie.
Try it: remove the cookeis you have relating to "tribalfusion" in th domain, and reload a page in Jref. On next page reloads, it doesn't come up anymore.
Even though the ad comes up once, the fact is there are pop-ups.

Frank... Cookies use up an insignificant amount of space. They can at times be malicious and cause stuff to happen that you don't want, but really space is no issue.

They don't call me "MR. WORRY" for nothing; 2 (120) gig drives and 2 (80) gig drives, and I worry about cookie space, LOL. I go in and wipe out "prefetch" and "history" files to clean space all the time. They call me the "crazy ol guy" for a reason I guess.

I think I'd even be willing to chip in a few bucks if we could just get rid of that gawdawful tribalfusion crap. I hate smileys and emoticons, and I hate popups. Imagine how I feel about popups offering me smileys.

I understand the need to have advertisements in order to cover the expenses of the web site or make a profit, but annoying visitors isn't generally considered good business.

Generally sites that use popups soon go down and dissapear anyway.

No one stays visiting sites with popups and so if you have to resort to that then your pretty much already defeated.
