I guarantee you that Mikawa Ossan, Mike Cash, epigene, myself and many many more of us here in the Jref forum, will be here for you, to help out in any way that we can, within our means.

Sure, we'll be glad to do what we can. But foreign men married to Japanese women and living in Japanese society have it quite differently from foreign women married to Japanese men living in Japanese society....or so I am led to believe, anyway.

Here is a reply I got from a woman who is active and in-the-know when it comes to this sort of thing. She posted it on an open forum, so I feel free to repost it here:

Assoc of Foreign Wives of Japanese:


This group recently celebrated it's 35th anniversary
has some 700 members nation wide with active districts
and chapters that gather for regular get togethers for
playgroups, morning coffees, BBQ, camping as well as
seminars, workshops and national conventions etc.
Yearly dues of \7000 yen are required for membership
which entitles you to get their bi-monthly 100plus
page Journal, a national directory as well as access
to their main e-mail list as well as a variety of some
15 plus sub-group e-mail lists for Districts,
chapters, young mothers, French speakers, German or
Chinese speakers, dieters, etc.
The group is structured with representatives, a
President various officers etc, all on a volunteer
basis.

MIJ has been around for about 5 or 6 years now I think
there are about 800 members on their free e-mail list.
There is no greater organization, but recently some
members have been getting together off list.


MIJ tends to have a younger crowd and a lot of the
talk seems to center on kids, weddings, in-laws, etc.
Many members have blogs and share pictures of kids on
Flicker,

AFWJ has members from 20 to 80 or older, with the
overall average age probably being higher than MIJ,
just because it has been around so long. There are
plenty of older members around to share their
experiences when younger ones have questions. The
discussions, while hitting on all the same topics as
MIJ noted above, also discus pensions, retirement,
aging parents in home countries, death of husbands,
divorce etc.

There are also a number of people like myself who
belong to both groups, creating overlap in membership
as well.

Please do make active and extensive use of the sort of support these folks can provide you. Marriage is tough enough sledding without all the added extra baggage that the age difference, cultural difference, language difference, etc etc that you're heading into. These ladies can help. You know, sometimes it's a hell of a comfort just to talk to someone in a similar situation and come to realize, "Oh, good. It's not just me. This happens to everybody".
