Parents and JRockers

my friends are kinda worried about me.

friends: cmon turn yourself back to german and english music
me:*sarcastically* no!
friends: oh,please!
me: *a bit evil and even more sarcastic* NEVER! *runs off with jrock pictures and music cd's and stuff* muhahahhahhaaaaaa :devilish:
-----
friends: *pressing me into a corner* cmon, give that jrocs stuff to Kadi (a girl which is/was my friend) here and she'll throw them into a nice shiny box rihgt here*pointing at a nasty, horrible, unclean trash can*
me: you will never take me alive!! muahahahaaaa!!! *laughing like crazy*
-----
friends: *pressing me into a corner again* now, you tell us what IS GOING ON WITH YOU AND ALL THESE CHINESE GIRLS!!!!?
me: neveeeeeerr!! they're japanese guys!

and so on. the thing that my friends dont accept me hearing a bot different music then i used to doesnt fit in my mind . it just doesnt fit! why dont they accept it? it's the same as they would one day turn theirselves against eating or breathing or i dont know whats important to them n their lives ☝ it's just horrible!

awwww *hugs tomino* haha my friends still don't know, but i can guess what they're reactions would be:

best friend 1: you and asian guys again!! God, you chinese humper!
me: They're japanese, not chinese! *thwaps her*
best friend 2: You are so weird. But really cute too!
me: *shifty sideways look*

----------

Oh, and my dad saw my laruku wallpaper, and he was like *no comment....don't even wanna know....*

And then my mum saw and it:

mum: which lunatics have you got on NOW?
me: don't say that! they're so cute!
mum: whatever *wanders off*

And then i told my sister about my new jrock crush (hyde) and showed her my desktop:

sis: so which one is he?
me: *points to hyde* him!
sis: *gasp* that's a guy!?
me: what are you talking about?! This is a very guy-ish picture of him!!
sis: jpop is so weird (how did she know about jpop??? 0_o)
me: they're jrock! and wait till you see the other bands....
sis: *runs away*

hehehe. So that was my family's reactions :D Wow, this was a long post :D:D

This is quite an amusing thread. Funny how things repeat themselves between teenagers and parents.
I can remember when Culture Club first came on the pop scene back in the 1980s. When my father first saw Boy George he said is that a man or a woman? Any of the 80s pop fans remember the New Romantics style? Have a look at thier dress sense. Might not be a in your face as the current trend in J-rock, but you can see the influence.
My own taste in music can be a bit left field anyway so I have always had these types of comments or conversations such as:
"Who's this?"
"It's a Japanese singer called Gackt"
"His name sounds like a cat coughing up a furball"
"Your favourite band sounds like they spent too much time smoking weed/banging their heads against something hard/manufactured tripe"

Or if it's my brother
Brother, "Silly comment about a piece of music or band"
Me, "Yeah, but you like Frank Zappa"
Brother, "Fair enough"

lol ... and you are right. *nods*
It's also quite funny that on some forums, there's a lot of talk about the attraction of androgyny, and all this "no-one understands my tastes!" and acting like it's a new thing ... Just go back in history a little, and read up on the 1920s and '30s, the "Art Deco" period and around that time ... "bisexuality" (or some pretence to it, in some cases -_-) and androgyny has been a "fashion" for quite some time (and of course in many times previous, except I don't know them so well, as Art Deco period was my specialism ><).

"It's a Japanese singer called Gackt"
"His name sounds like a cat coughing up a furball"

It's also kind of ... interesting how important people's parents' / siblings' views are to them ... I guess I see it from a different perspective because I haven't lived at home since a number of years now. But I assure you, in another 5 years or so (much less for some of you! ^^) all that sort of thing will diminish greatly in importance for you. :haihai: Sure, your parents' opinions still count for you, but it's amazing how much more tolerant both you and they can be when you don't have to share the same house! 👍

As for friends: well, I've got friends who like many different types of music but none of them share my taste in music. It makes me sad sometimes, but we don't pick on each other about it; it's nice to have some differences too! If your friends keep picking on you about your taste in music, well, it's fine if they just do it as a joke, in a friendly way, but if they are really serious, and keep insulting you, do you really want to have them as friends at all? We can't all like the same things but we can at least have a bit of respect!

Nice to see you here, Mycernius! :p It's good to get a different slant on things from someone who doesn't enter into these discussions so often :) (I sometimes think I'm in a different corner, as one of the few posters here who has left home! 😭 )

my mom still concludes that miyavi is a girl. she doesn't know why I like asians so much lol

my mom and dad hates:
Miyavi, Kyo, Ruki, Aoi and anyone who has piercings -_-.
why do parents hate piercings? (well most of them do (like mine))

wandering.legy - i think you're pretty right about your friends reactions :). tho i dont know your friends at all.

:D :D :D Classic reaction! My sister said that too hehe

Tomino: :D :D i LOVE you're avatar, it's so cute! *wants to lick it back* heh ;)

Boy George was cool but have you seen him lately? Creepy! Actually I learned about jpop and jrock when I was doing a search on homosexuality, I don't know why it got to me like it did.
I was researching homosexuality because I wanted to figure out why my brother was gay, it's not that weird.

I do read the Music section every now and then. Might get ideas of artists to try out, plus some of the threads are amusing to read.:-)

wandering.legy - lick it! :D. (ugh that reminds me a stupid song named whip it! and i hate that song...). thanks, anyway (for the lovingness :D) ^^.
(okay, i'm not good at compliments :(.)

hahaha *licks tomino's avatar* nyaa so cute :D:D

Ohh guess what, i told my friends about my jrock obssession and showed them pictures of Hyde and what not.....and they thought he was HOT :D :D:D They LOVED him. HAHA my friends are so unpredictable.

I'm not very great at remembering crap unfortunately, but here's the jest of some of the things I remember:

First off, I was looking at a picture of Hyde or something. In fact, I could have been just showing my mother him. I can't remember as it happened a year ago or so. Anyway, I was there, my mother was there, and pixelated!Hyde was there. That's all that's important.

"Isn't he pretty, mom?"
"No, he isn't!"
"Why not?"
"Because guys can't be pretty!"
"Why not?"
"Because it's...Weird."

That conversation (although that was such a rough version) has repeated itself a few times too. Sad really. Damned gender roles and their evilness.

As for other things, I can't remember the exact words, but my father likes calling JRock "Jap-crap", JRockers "Jap-freaks", and he used to insult their genital size a lot. Once he said they were probably only as big as his thumb or he said they were even smaller. It was very rude. My father is ever-so ignorant...:(

I also think my father thinks they're all gay as well and I think my brother called them that too. Unfortunately, I lost interest in JRock for awhile (blasphemy! I know! D: ), but I'm sure I can get some more ignorant crap out of those two as my JRock obsession comes home again.

Horiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiizon! 😲 *tackles* You're back! 😄

(Sorry for the offtopic, peoples. :sorry: )

Yay! Someone remembers me! You seriously have no idea how happy that makes me! :giggle: :joyful:

And so it's not off-topic here, here's another little story I just remembered. My friend and I were watching Laruku videos and, since my brother was there, we decided to annoy him. The first video we watched was "Flower" and everytime Hyde's lower-half or full body would come on screen, we'd both yell out 'bulge!' at the same time and I would yell out 'nipple!' everytime Ken's shirt slipped off his shoulder and his nipple was shown (apparently, I was amazing at that. xD). That apparently did not make my brother happy and it showed later on. We were watching "Ready Steady Go" and, suddenly, my friend squeels out something about Hyde's crotch or something. She then spent, like, five or so minutes trying to get me to see what she had squeeled about (really quickly, well...It looked like Hyde had gotten a bit excited for a brief second there). Eventually, once I saw it, my brother was all "he's wearing a jockstrap!". I was like "Yeah...He'd so put on a jackstrap for one second in a video. Uh-huh. >.>". At the same time, I was also going "o_0" a bit as well. It was weird. ☝

Not to be rude, but are your parents roughly in their late 30s or early 40s? Maybe you should look up to see what bands and singers they were into when they were your age? The 70s and 80s had some damn strange bands and singers. It should quieten them when you point out similarities between dress sense then and now.

Yup. They are. I know my father likes Bon Jovi, but he's not really interested in music anymore it would seem. And my mother likes country. Nevertheless, I'll try that.

...Even if I'm sure it probably won't work. Maybe with my mother (who isn't a problem to begin with), but my father has a bad listening problem. 😌

Anyway, it wasn't rude at all and thank you for the suggestion. 🙂

EDIT: Well, I asked my dad, but apparently he didn't really listen to music when he was a child. Would explain why he has practically no interest in it now...😌

MY MUM AND DAH WERE LIKE SHES PRETTY(pointing at bou) AND I FREAKED OUT AND SAID IT'S A BOY AND HES NOT PRETTY HE'S ADORABLE then they looked at me like i was a lesbian

hey thought I'd put in my two sense. Me coming out of the JRock closet consisted of my Dad coming into my room and seeing my Mana wallpaper. He's like "whoa, she's hot!" (which wasn't weird for him because I have always liked women better than men, the only dudes I like seem to be Jrocker types) but then he was all "can I have a copy of that for my home office wallpaper" so for TWO weeks I got to see Mana-sama in my living room and my Dad still thinks he's a chick. LOL

also I love to go to school and show pics to my guy friends.. "would you do her" they say "hell yeah" and then I'm all HAHA it's a dude. the cool guys are all... "well hell I'd still do her"

just my two cents.

hehe. my mam asks whenever i change my desktop wallpaper "is that gack". ive forgotten the amount of times ive said "No mam, that is not Gack-t, that is ..." *condersending shake of head*
also, i drew Bou for a libary compertition and the liberian almost had a heart attack when i told her Bou was a guy. :D

Well, my situation is better~
Mother like X - Japan along with me and even plays their songs on piano
or watching their videos with me~ Father....weeeeeell~ He once called Yoshiki as a woman even
that was one of his newest nowadays photos, but when I show more photos to him, he said:
"Ok nevermind, I see he is a man, but still girlish~" And never even asked nothing about J-rock again~~~
I think artistic persons like my parents understands this j-rock visual appearance thing better and more
calmer~
But still, I like teasing them sometimes with photos "well, guess - boy or girl?"~

I have a pic of the gazettE in their Hyena outfits.
So my mum comes in the room;

Mum : Who are these gang of girls. Look at their clothes and how nice their hair is cut.
Me: Those are guys.
Mum : What ? You lie !!! This one has shortpants * points at uruha *

She finds them strange but I don't think she cares all that much.

Hehe.

I was walking back home from work and my phone rings. It was mom.

Me: Uhm .. hi Mom.
Mom: Oh, hi ! Listen to this. /suddenly Aishitenai by ABC started
Me: Oh, mom, how many times do I have to tell you that you can't call me just because you listen t ABC.

or ...

me: /shows pic of the GazettE which she already knows
mom: Uruha is really beautiful. The others are really nice, but Uruha is special.
me: ofc he is.
mom: i'd like to see kids dressed like that and with this fashion on the street. they are interesting.
me: yes.

or ...

me: do you really have to come?
mom: what's wrong with coming with you at a jrock concert
me: >.>"
