Tech OpenAI opens its first Asia hub in Tokyo

OpenAI, the developer behind ChatGPT, is poised to launch its inaugural Asian base by opening an office in Tokyo this month. The company aims to provide customized corporate services and actively contribute to shaping a governance framework for this technology. OpenAI's interest in Japan was evident when Chief Executive Sam Altman met with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Tokyo last April, shortly after unveiling ChatGPT. This move sparked global interest in generative AI. Through its collaboration with Microsoft, OpenAI's generative AI technology is already being utilized by numerous Japanese companies. The Tokyo office is expected to offer corporate services, including customer support, and local talent recruitment is also on the horizon.
