oonezumi = rat?

hi all, i know that nezumi = mouse. but i checked a website and they say oonezumi = rat, but i check another website and they say that it is not true, so wad's the truth?

Japanese doesn't usually distinguish between mouse and rat, but you can say ハツカネズミ for the cute little white mice and ドブネズミ for the gross kind of big rats.
