Omuraisu is kind of like Japanese style fried rice smothered with a omelet. It's a very satisfying "soul" food. Here's an easy recipe to try.

And don't forget to watch the excellent drama, Lunch Queen. 👍

It looks delicious! Hmm. I read the recipe and the procedure is not so difficult. Sake is a little bit expessive here in the Philippines is there a substiture for Sake?

Sake isn't needed, it's optional. I think it might taste better without sake.

How to make Omuraisu,
It is very easy, and it is difficult.
There are 2 varieties of methods to wrap rice in an egg.
No.1 Put an omelette on rice.

No.2 Wrap rice in an egg.

Wow, he's got some skills there, I mean the guy on the videos!
I've tried to make the one with the eggs over rice before, but I just couldn't keep the eggs nice and soft like that.
By the way, ground beef also works great for filling.

I've never had demiglace sauce, only ketchup. Tohoho...:(

I am sure going to try this. You can ad anything to the rice as a filling for the omelet ? Or should I try just the baked rice with ketchup? Or is that just the basic version?
How is it served in Japan?

Very simple version.
Finely chopped onion + chicken (cut into tiny pieces), stir-fry them, and add cooked rice, season with salt, pepper, and ketchup.
This is called "chikin raisu (chicken-rice)" in Japanese.
Wrap the chicken rice with plain omlette. If it is difficult to warp up the rice, you can make an omlette separately and put it on the rice.
:)

The thing which is short in the first recipe is milk.
A soft omelette is done when I add milk to an egg.

Cooking with Dog

I noticed this excellent Cooking with Dog video on omuraisu and had to share it.

BTW, I tried omuraise with demiglace sauce at my local Denny's. It wasn't anything special. Ketchup is just as good.

haha trying omruraisu at denny's is like having a big mac at taco bell. it just doesn't work.

I don't mean Denny's in L.A., I mean Denny's in Tokyo. The omuraisu wasn't bad, but it wasn't special.ツ

i can see sake being added in the sauce, but i also don't think that sake would go good in the fried rice portion.
