The question is: What do the Okinawans want?

A monarchy is such a waste of money. Would they be willing to pay the price?
 
Its also interesting to point out many villages in Japan have hereditary powerless village chiefs which were intact during the feudal period as well. The Okinawan monarchy should be similar to this.

A village chief is alot different from a regional monarchy. Like I said Japan has only one monarchy and one Emperor that is tradition. A regional monarchy is not the Japanese way so it will never happen. Replying with your stubborn ideas about this is useless.
 
Nagashima-san, that is very true. The US forces are probably the first thing the Okinawans want out.

Changing the topic a bit - are there descendants of the Tokugawa, Ashikaga, Toyotomi, Taira, Minamoto, and or Hojo clans alive today?
 
My wife is actually descended from the Okinawan royal family on her mother's side so I'd guess I would be completely in favor of restoring the Okinawan monarchy, LOL. Her grandfather explained it all to me once, I'm not sure how closely the relationship is but all the members of the family have the kanji for "sho" in their names.

I think its quite cool.
 
Wow, really? LOL, yeah, you could be Prince! That's true - the name of the dynasty is Sho, so that is their last name? How close is she to the throne?

I know the Fujiwara have a descendant because the prime minister of Japan in 1994 was descended from the Fujiwara clan . My grandma knows a Japanese-American doctor who is descended from the Minamoto clan from her mother's side. That would mean she is also descended from the imperial family and might also be a distant contestant for the throne (that is if females are ever allowed to enter).
