I think he's referring to your topic content. Taken from the topic title, it starts out bad. While I personally feel that the topic is valid (because I have also heard the common saying that half-races are more attractive than people from the respective individual races), Mike Cash's post, while extremely blunt, sums up what most people think of the topic.

I feel that if you had asked how the children are perceived, not the fact that they are ugly or good looking, the topic may have had a different outcome. Just like how the moderator who closed your topic thinks:

I stand by my decision. I think I have made it clear in my post that I didn't have any problem with the topic of people who are half Japanese and how they are perceived. It is just the way it was presented with the ridiculous poll that may (and has) derail the focus of the topic.

The way it was started was certainly something to roll your eyes about but I'll say that maybe it shouldn't have been closed so abruptly.
The tone the topic was taking wasn't as immature and offensive as the OP had probably intended and it DID have the potential to turn into a real discussion. Once a thread/topic is closed it really sort of dies, even if a new thread is opened.

I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining but I've seen several threads closed down that had people either furiously debating or just being plain old silly, but they were interesting and kept people coming back to read or comment. I think being a little more lenient with controversial or silly threads would bring some life back into this forum, maybe offering more warnings instead of dropping the axe right away.

It could have been requested for the OP to simply change their wording and delete the poll instead of outright shutting down what could have been a very interesting thread.

I've noticed also that if a person is mixed race they are often automatically thought of as being more attractive..in this case, an observation that is a backed by serious, empirically grounded studies and statistical analysis. On the other hand, there are others who argue even 'positive' ("reverse") racism is still racism and can hurt the person I'm assuming things about....

So where does any facet of "racism" end ? Is it unwarranted prejudice to ask whether Japanese as a nationality are shy or uncommunicative because it groups people together to form a negative generalization ? If ANY perception that assigns certain behaviours to someone's race/ethnicity (whether positive or negative) raises an automatic red flag....well, I wouldn't use the word "ugly" but you can basically say farewell to any discussion forum...and especially JREF as we've known it.

Just make a new thread WITHOUT a silly poll that asks "Are (a certain group of people) kawaii! or ugly?", which could take the focus away from the tropic as seen in the thread.

Since you asked...if there was a poll, IMO, it should have been worded in the affirmative "Are biracials more attractive than average?"

And I seriously hope no member felt like nothing but an object or museum oddity to gawk at. It certainly wasn't the intention of above post. But to bring this whole thing back to a saner level, it would be interesting to hear from anyone with first hand experience more how they dealt with the excessive attention they got/get from being a mixed-race child/adult....

Try being the parent of such a child in Japan. That is pretty much the way our kids get referred to.
