Then, concerning your guitarist position in Nightmare, how would you clarify the fact of "My position is this"?
"If it's the case of a live, then it was there during (our) indies time. Our appearance wasn't really fitting, but my position on stage stood out like being skillful."
Why is your appearance not fitting?
"At the time when the band was being assembled, I was very showy in the beginning. Because I like Hide, I wanted to get into being showy. The make-up and wearing weird contacts is weird, but I liked it. Also, my own stand on my position (in the band) stood out. Generally... I don't want to be what they call a cool guitarist. It's a little weird, isn't it?"
Why do you think "it's a little weird"?
"There's no string instrument party, right? Ni~ya possess the cool manliness, Sakito is beautiful and above all cool. So, in my way of holding myself, I wanted a strange appearance."
In carrying though the bulk of things, there is a meaning of risk involved, isn't there?
"In the case of danger, everyone who don't try it, they will end up wanting to and end like it. Other people would see the appearance of strange make up develop the guitarists' danger (in other words, the make up will make the person look dangerous/risky). On the contrary, it isn't. Whatever direction you go towards, there will always be an imitation."
I see. This natural direction led you to get piercings?
"No. This direction I felt lead me to listen more. (laughs)"
When did you become so open about piercing?
"Around March when I was still in high school, I glued on my lip piercing during class (laughs). After that, I got my ear pierced and during that time about 1-2 weeks later, I increased it to about five. After that, I added to my lips."
Is there a significance in you being open to piercings?
"I felt this time of opening was a "between experience" time and it was "absolutely
unable to turn back" from it. Nightmare also just started when I was around 17-18. Soon, I generally didn't need a job and made a decision."
So you prepared your own way of life.
"Hmm... I more or less thought about the people that was within and outside of my surroundings. Here, I felt it was necessary for me to become determined. I couldn't run away from the phrase"I don't want a normal job," but there was this drive within myself. This was when I quit school. My drive lead me to not needing my academic background. When I quit, I said to my parents, "I want to make a living playing guitar." My mom then said, "It's not simple being famous!" and compared this with Ban and Binta-san (laughs) [Not sure on this line. Subject to error.]. My father was beyond mad and said "Do whatever the hell you want" (laughs). From then on, I felt it was absolutely up to my own responsibility. For me, this is a private thing. So, the tuition and matriculation fees were taken (off the expenses). With that kind of money, it was easier to quit and my parents were mad. That's why, my duty is to absolutely return without failure and that's the determination I had to quit (school)."
