Australian Government has announced it will spend $6 million on non-lethal whale research to show the Japanese you don't have to kill whales to study them. Japanese officials insisted there would be no changes to their hunting plans despite international protests and slumping demand for whale meat at home......

slumping demand for whale meat at home Really ????

I simply don't understand the reason for killing whale for its meat. The meat is not that great anyway and there are so many other less ecologically devastating alternative. Maybe it would be better to give Japanese whale hunters the custom-made playstation game on the whale hunting. If they are going to be out of work without whale, then, there is always a good old fashioned "school" to learn new tricks in this new enlightened age to earn living! Study time!
PS. Sorry, my tax money should not go to their re-training. Let them foot their own bill.

Iceland was collapsed due to global financial turmoil. They have to repay external debt by promoting seafood exports .... to Japan.

Eating Whale meat must be a little help for Iceland.

They cannot earn living with a Playstation game.
They're not hunting whales for fun or as a sport.

That BBC picture clip is spooky even though it is shrouded in the comic form. It looks like a whale is savoring to eat itself in the sadistic, cannibalistic pleasure.

I think you mix up with photos of Abu Ghraib prisoners.

How about this? Full course of whale meat menus.

Fried, Sashimi, Bacon, and Smoked..

And, they are loaded with healthy substances such PCB, DDT, mercury, etc.

Today, I saw a sign at a store advertising a green tea flavored drink and it said "try me! :liplick:" Isn't it the same idea?

A Season for Camel hunting ?

It is interesting to see their mentality - Always.

It might not be as simple as you think. They government are highly intelligent people and they might be persuing other strategies and plans.

For instant, to me the incident about September 11 is not as simple as everyone might think.

Both sides have already planned every steps ahead during the incident. Think carefully, you might also find out that the Chinese might have also interfered with the incident.

Having America into recession and the middle east to rely on them for exports is a two birds with one stone strategy.

The more we average people get into political is the more this world will be thrown into chaos

I agree that it may not that it will be as simple as Jerseyboy was making it sound. However I completely disagree that the more often average people get involved in politics, the more it will end up in chaos, because all government officials are just average people, in a high position.

Way to go and miss the point entirely. This is different to whale hunting in a few respects.
1. Camels are non-native to Australia and can be damaging to the unique Australian environment. If you are culling them and they are edible then you might as well put the meat to some use. Whales are native to Japanese waters.
2. Camels are not an endangered species, neither is the kangeroo. Whales are an endangered species
3. The Australians are not killing them on a pretend basis of "research" and the selling the meat onto the domestic market. The Japanese are.

I know you are going to come back with a load of propaganda BS insisting the Japanese are only doing research etc., but you and I both know that it is BS and a front to really supply the domestic market for whale meat. Honestly do you have shares in the whaling industry hence your continued blinkered defence for this slaughter?

As you wish, I come back here again.

I don't understand what you want to tell. Whales are living in ocean, not only in the sea near Japan, but also Atrantic ocean, which is "open sea".

2. Camels are not an endangered species, neither is the kangeroo. Whales are an endangered species

Who said "Whales are endangered" ? Sea Shepard said so ? Whales are one of mammal group in the ocean, which consist of different species. Which spcies of Whales are you talking about? I suggest you to check Wiki or similars.

3. The Australians are not killing them on a pretend basis of "research" and the selling the meat onto the domestic market. The Japanese are.

Pretend, fake, or whatsoever, whaling under scientific research is agreed in the IWC. If you can read "English" text, you will know. If not, perphaps you are talking about different world.

Honestly do you have shares in the whaling industry hence your continued blinkered defence for this slaughter?

No, I am not interested in whaling and rarely eat it, but I'm pissed off with arrogance, selffishness and propagnda of anti-whaling terrorists.

May i know why they preven whaling ?

By the way,Camels are delicious

"Whales are an endangered species."

That's like saying bears are an endangered species. In fact, there are more than one species of bear. Polar bears are endangered; black bears are not.

Blue whales are endangered; but the Japanese aren't hunting blue whales. They're hunting minke whales, which aren't endangered. Minke whales are numerous, and their populations are stable, even growing. I see no ethical issues involved in harvesting this renewable resource for meat -- not anymore than harvesting other renewable sources of meat (fish, beef, fowl, etc.).

I don't know if the Japanese are conducting valid research. At some level, they probably are. If so, isn't it better to utilize the left-over meat than to waste it?

There is an ethical issue to waste of food resources, especially in a world with starving people. The Aussies, I hear, kill kangaroos (a species native and even unique to AU), while leaving their meat to rot. These acts deserve far more moral condemnation than does the Japanese use of non-endangered whales for food.
