Need Help with Location in Japan

I watched an episode of Cool Japan on tv a few months ago..and I saw this amazing thing, where you put a lock on this fence and throw the keys away. Apparently its something couples do together and it keeps a bond between you. Well I have no idea where this is located or what it is called. I was hoping someone on the forums might be able to help so I can tell my travel agent to book me to come here.

I have heard of this before, however It was a Chinese tradition where you would place a lock on a fence or chain and throw away the key.

I think that if they do practice this in Japan, that your not going to find one place where it is practiced, but that it is a tradition all over. It's not something that you can book do to do, like perhaps a tea ceremony.

This is however all speculation, so take it with a grain of salt!

Having lived in Japan most of my life, I've never heard of such a place. If there is one, it must be a local tourist spot somewhere that is not widely known in the country.

I can't help you, but there might be someone living outside the Kanto area who knows such a spot...

According to the internet sources, it is 恋路が浜 (koijigahama) in Aichi prefecture.

About two weeks ago I met a friend of mine who travelled to China, and she also showed me something like this, she said that there are at least two fences (gates?) like this in China.
So poeple have similar idea about the lock and relationship both in Japan and China.

There's a spot like that in Italy, it's Ponte Vecchio in Firenze.
Lately people started placing lockers also on a bridge (Ponte Milvio) in Roma, because of a movie.

Thanks for the info. Yea I wish I would have recorded the Cool Japan episode, but that picture looks like what it was. I remember more lore about it, apparently the couple writes their name on a piece of paper and ties it to the lock. Then the keys are thrown in the water that the fence is overlooking. This is supposed to help the couple's relationship, where their bond now can never be unlocked.
