Music Venues and music scene in Japan

I've been very curious about the rock and jazz music scene in Japan. I'm a huge fan of Jrock and Japanese jazz artists (Keiko Matsui ). Is any one familiar with the music scene in the major cities? How about the venues? What kind of music scene does Japan have now?

For the first time, I'll be going to Tokyo and Kyoto during this winter.The first thing that I'd want to do is go to a venue and check out a local rock show. Does anyone know an area like that in Tokyo? As a musician and composer, thats one of my life long term experiences that I want to do .

There are lot's of Jazz bars in Japan. I'm sure if you google it, you will be able to find it as well. I don't know Tokyo very well since I live in Kobe, and don't go very often to Tokyo, but the last time I went to Tokyo I went to the Ochanomizu area, where they have lot's of guitar shops and I also found a jazz bar there: JAZZ LIVEHOUSE NARU - ﾆ淡ﾆ槌槌炭ﾂ・ﾆ停?ｰﾆ辰ﾆ置ﾆ地ﾆ脱ﾆ湛ﾂ ﾆ段ﾆ停?ｹ
