1. I think last weeks exam was not difficult.

2. I don't think Mie was mean as a child.

3. I don't think Mai received a letter.

My answers:

1. せんしゅうのしけんはむずかしくなかったとおもいます。

2. みえさんはこどものといいじわるじゃなかったとおもいます。

3. まいさんはてがみをもらわなかったとおもいます。


Also, how would I say:

' I don't think Mai received a letter from Mari '

Just one typo.

2. みえさんはこどものときいじわるじゃなかったとおもいます。

How about just "Mai received a letter from Mari"?

My book wants me to use a short form past negative with ~とおもいます。 :/ I just had no idea how to say ' received from X ' so if you could put the sentence within those parameters that'd probably be better >_< if that's okay

Oh but how would that be used with my sentence of ' I don't think Mai received a letter from Mari ' I'm out at the moment so it's difficult to focus right now :l

You can use your original #3 almost as it is. The bit I gave you, think of it as a "plug-in". Where do you think it would go?

Just wrote a long reply but internet cut out as I was sending -_- in short, I'd imagine it'd be:

" まいさんはてがみマリさんからもらわなかったとおもいます "


Just off the top of my head for now

Replace your dropped を

You could put まりから before
てがみ, for a more natural phrase order.

It'd be helpful if my book actually mentioned how to say such things before asking me to use them -_-

Either it is a cruddy book or it wants you to use your head a bit more. I really couldn't say which.

What made you drop を? Reread Mike-san's advise "You can use your original #3 almost as it is".

I should have been more clear. I meant "replace" as in "put it back in from where you left it out".
