Education More Japanese universities to offer classes in English

An increasing number of universities in Japan aim to strengthen their international competitiveness, such as the University of Tokyo, which has announced a plan to establish a new five-year course with fall admission.

Akita International University (AIU), established in 2004, has been at the forefront of innovative education in Japan. Despite being a relatively "young university," AIU has taken bold steps to enhance its global competitiveness. All classes at AIU are conducted in English, a unique approach that fosters internationalization. The university's campus, nestled in lush greenery approximately 30 minutes by car from Akita city centre, hosts around 900 students, including graduate students. AIU's commitment to providing a global education experience sets it apart, and initiatives like the mandatory one-year study abroad program, foreign faculty, and 24/7 library access contribute to its distinctive character.

3. Kwansei Gakuin University:
   • Plans to open a new campus in Oji Park, Kobe's Nada Ward, as early as 2029.
   • Enhancing programs for students to obtain degrees by completing courses solely in English.
   • Aiming for about 20% international students among its 4,000 students.
