mobile phone rental

hiya guys and girls.

I'm looking to rent a phone for 3 months, as Japan seems to be unfriendly to the idea of "pay as you go", this is about as cheap as I can find: inphonix.com

Anyone done this before? It says I need a credit card to apply (which I don't have )

Last time I used a phone in Japan, I was employed, so I could get a contract mobile, however this time I just be on my tourist visa... so even though I read somewhere that you don't need your gaijin card to get a contract mobile, they will need one illegally or not

arg my brain hurts just writing this

They do have pay as you go phones, but they're ridiculously expensive. 4800 yen a month sounds pretty good to rent to someone w/o a gaijin card and /or job.
