Michael Jackson plans appearance in Tokyo
Pop star will accept MTV Japan's ﾂ'Legend Award' and launch Asian tour

LOS ANGELES - Michael Jackson plans to make his first public appearance since his trial acquittal last June at a ceremony in Tokyo to accept MTV Japan's ﾂ"Legend Award,ﾂ" his spokesman said.

Jackson's participation in the award ceremony Saturday at Yoyugi Olympic Stadium will launch an Asian tour. Jackson also plans to visit Singapore, Shanghai and Hong Kong, spokeswoman Raymone K. Bain said in a telephone interview from her Washington, D.C., office Thursday.

I think MJ is trying to escape from the child molestation drama that's been going on with him. I haven't heard any plans for him to return to the US.

You gotta give MJ his props though, even after the years of criticism, his music still has people dancin when it plays. I see it all to often, the main people who talk down upon him are the first to bob their heads when one of his classics come on.

I still like MJ as an artist, but it stops there.. The guy was phenomenal in his industry and I don't think anyone can touch that.

I agree with you here, but his CD Invincible wasn't very good. Which is very sad , but I like alot of his music.

MTV Japan will honour Michael Jackson with its Legend Award this weekend, with the pop star scheduled to make his first major public appearance in nearly a year.

Jackson arrived in Japan on Friday for the awards ceremony, according to a local spokesperson for the singer.

Jackson's weekend plans also include visiting an orphanage on Sunday, touring Tokyo and meeting with business leaders.

"I look forward to seeing old friends and saying hello to my huge fan base in Japan who, like my other fans around the world, have for so many years consistently shown their love and support to me and my family," Jackson, 47, said in a statement.

His participation in Saturday's ceremony would be Jackson's first official public appearance since June 2005, when he was acquitted of child-molestation charges in the U.S.

Shortly after the trial, Jackson moved to the Gulf state of Bahrain, where he has been working on a new album and a charity single to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina.

However, he hasn't been able to dodge problems at home in California.

Mounting debt forced Jackson to restructure his finances. And he was forced to lay off most of his staff and shutter his California estate known as Neverland Ranch after state officials discovered that he owed employees back wages and had let his insurance lapse.

Jackson's regular spokesperson, Raymone Bain, said the Japan trip will launch an Asian tour for the singer. Stops are also planned for Singapore, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

These two women I worked with, one in her 40s, one in her sixties believed that all those people were trying to scam $ off of MJ.

I guess it is possible.
They apparently saw nothing wrong with having children that are
not related to you sleep in the same bed.
Maybe they reeeally were only sleeping...?

Was MJ always found not guilty and never had to pay any money to anyone?

In my opinion Michael Jackson is a classic example of a common phenomenon, the very talented person with serious character flaws. Richard Wagner and Pablo Picasso were two other examples. Such people can, of course, occur outside the Fine Arts and Performing Arts. By all accounts Edward Teller was a brilliant man. It was the less savory aspects of his character that caused him to be the inspiration for the title character in the movie Dr. Strangelove.

Returning to the arts, Wagner's and Picasso's achievements endure despite the controversies surrounding them. I could be mistaken, but I'm inclined to think that Michael Jackson's behavior will eventually cause his music to be largely forgotten.
