Hello guys. I'm new here. Even though I actually already follow up all the discussions and tips but not at this exact thread. However, it seems I have to start to get involved since I'm all alone right now. Me and my other 2 friends attended the exam but somehow they did not manage to become the top 86 out of 172 people in the exam. I almost want to give up all things until I realized I have to fight for this on the sake of my friends who always fighting alongside me.

So hi to tomayto, zid, qwie, blurcheryl, ekoy, hhe, prettybunny, hope, seacrac, elaeis, Ah Seng, phyll20 who are having Malaysian flag under your name and also to others. Thanks to blucheryll that have stated in next two weeks the result of interview will be known. Seems there are not so many Malaysians replied to posts nowadays since this is the time to wait and see. Well, for me I'm struggling to find professors who willing to become my supervisor. Actually I don't know which is the proper way to express our desire to those professors to become our supervisor. Anyone here might help?

I know I didn't have my best time during the interview. I feel the session was short instead the waiting members stated that it is quite long though. So, my intention is, I hope all of you especially Malaysian members would inform to this forum as they get the answer. As I don't where to refer now. Thank you in advance.

hi radiuse,
i am also waiting for the interview result /panic @@
the interviewers said the result will be out after two weeks, which is 5 more days! (my interview was at last wednesday)
everyday i check my email again and again to ensure i do not miss any email from malaysia embassy... gosh, let's pray for the best tgt ^^

for the professors in Japan, my friend who obtained MEXT scholarship last yr shared his experience with me
he said it could be difficult at the beginning to get acceptance from those professors but once you get recommended by the embassy and MEXT those universities and profs will be willing to accept you.
so dun worry so much

Hello prettybunny.. thanks for replying..
Woa, 5 more days? I think it might be in the weekend just like the examination result. Well, who am I to expect when the result will go out. My interview was on Thursday, perhaps it was the 3rd string of interview candidates. Well, that is the only thing we can do right now, pray.
Oh, so desu ka. I actually contacted the respective universities' admin. However I did not have any courage to directly contact the prof/assoc prof right now. Do you already contact one, prettybunny? Thank God I found this thread; I didn't even know the correct flow of this scholarship. I thought I will get the answer at most on February 2011. Seems the expecting time has been cut short to few days now .
Well, good luck to you and to all of us.

haha those admin people wont reply you unless you are their student.
I directly sent emails to Prof's mailboxs, including short introduction and my cv
more than 10 emails were sent but only got 2 replies.
i think if the professor is willing to accept u then there is no reason why the uni will reject your admission. but the pre-requisite is to get the recommendation from embassy, i think that will be very helpful no matter which uni you r applying

i just got my call from the embassy :d they will recommend me for the scholarship :d

good luck to everyone!! And thank you again for everyone who gave many informations and encouragement so i can come up to this point :d

congratulations!!!!!

Congrats to those who just got the news of the recommendation, especially all those in Indonesia! Hearing good news from you guys got me really motivated! For the rest of us, let's continue to work hard

The applicants in Singapore had our paper this morning, and before the end of the (working) day, they had already informed us of the shortlisting for interview. I'm really glad to be shortlisted this time round.... but hope I wont flunk the interview, which is really a killer for me =( will work on it this wkend!! Once again, all the best to those who are still halfway through!

I know I didn't have my best time during the interview. I feel the session was short instead the waiting members stated that it is quite long though..

That's what happened to me too! Let's hope for the best and let's believe they did that because they were awestruck and totally in love with us, tee hee.

I hope you too are another malasian candidate so in april you'll have words of encouragement for your friends that will be anxious to meet you in japan!:haihai:
Make your best efforts and keep strong!!!!:box:

Havent heard anything

Guess that means i'm more than likely out.

hey just wait till Mon yeah? The PIC said they will send out all notifications by then... and she mentioned even if you are not shortlisted, you'll get sth! So no news doesnt mean bad news!

Hi radiuse,
Pleasure meeting fellow Malaysian here
Ms. Yin said around 2 weeks so we can afford to wait till at least end of next week before we bombard her with our phone calls
Coming to the issue on getting supervisors....as far as i know, professors would prefer students with some background on the type of research they are conducting so they don't have to train us from scratch (I'm talking in the context of researches which require hands-on experience, e.g. certain experimental techniques). Hence selecting the right professor is very crucial in order to gain acceptance. If we randomly mail professors trying our luck (thinking we might be interested in their respective fields but without experience or substantial knowledge), chances are, we might get rejected and that'll demotivate us. But this is just my 2 cents worth.
>prettybunny
Your interview was last wednesday?? Mine too!! When was your session? Mine was in the morning. We could have met

Hello hello!

I think I wrote about 5 professors and 2 answered me. One will take me into his PhD program- which would suit quite good because it's entirely in English- and I just started learning Hiragana a week ago
So still after the 6 months language training I think won't be able to do some useful research in Japanese.
But this program would be at Ritsumeikan APU- which is quite off the beaten track. But I don't want to move to Tokyo anyway- my first preference still would be Sapporo.

I am still really happy to get nominated- congratulation to the all others!
But I am busy finishing my Masters thesis which I need to hand in by August 16 so there are a lot of things I need to get done... I just got all the Forms by the Japanese Embassy because we didn't need to fill them in for the first application.

What did you chose when you would like to start? April or October? Or did you chose April prefered October is also ok? Or October prefered April is also ok? I need to do the language couse first -does anyone else need to do it?

All the best for all of you!

Hi all,

I was accepted by the consulte in Detroit and am waiting to get my loa from Yukio Uemura at Tokyo University of the Arts (芸大)to study folk singing (民謡). Thanks to all for the helpful information on the application process.

Anyone else thinking about going to geidai, or studying music elsewhere?

Good luck to all! Hope to meet some of you in person one of these days.

Cheers,
Pat Savage

Well, in my case they (admin) replied actually. They taught me how the flow is going to be. Generally now I have to contact respective supervisors that are related with my research proposal. I'm not experienced and almost zero in contacting someone who is from outside Malaysia. However I will try and write a good email. :box:

>cyntcynt
He3. So it happened to you too. Well, I've already showed my full confidence out there. Still it is time to wait.
Thanks for the encouragement. Still have a strong will and determination here. He3. :box:

>blurcheryl
Nice to meet you, blurcheryl. Well, I hope I don't have to call her just like the last 3 stages. Anxious waiting and hope for the best.
Well, I thought so. Thanks for the info. I think I might have the technical knowledge. Only need someone to teach how to operate those lab equipments only. After all, I have to discuss with my potential supervisor then. Only after that I can speculate on other matters.

>ijulia
Congratulation and good luck on your Master thesis. I still imagining how hard studying Master is.
I have chosen October because my convocation day will be on May 2011. That is why I cannot choose April. However Japan Embassy here ordered us to mark between April and October only. The other two are not recommended.
About the language course, I don't know. Perhaps someone here can explain about it. :?

All the best to all of us. Gambatte kudasai.

Passed Primary Screening-Semi-finalist for Grad School

Anyone from the US here that has gone through the consulate interview/japanese language test and then received a letter from the consulate saying that you have passed the primary screening and now have until August 27th to receive a letter of Acceptance from a university? I'm applying for a MBA program and in the process of sending the documents to: IUJ, Hitosubashi university and keio. The requirements for the letter of acceptance doesn't require the same documents for actually applying to the university.

Two questions: Has anyone ever received this letter from the embassy (can't see in the previous post)? And has anyone received a letter of acceptance and then later denied by mext in the final selection process?

Thanks
Thomas

Hi again!
The interview in the embassy here will be on July 27 and we were told we might try connecting Japanese professors before that date because it could bring some advantage if we say we've got a professor at the interview. Now, I'm in serious doubt if I should write someone in Japan BEFORE I pass the interview. What I'm afraid of is that they might not answer me at all, and then even if I pass the interview I will have lost them anyway, because it's pointless to write for a second time to someone who already neglected you. What should I do? Has anyone tried contacting professors before the interview, and if so, have they responded at all?

Hey PeterSimon!

I wrote to two Professors before the interview and those two were actually the ones who responded almost imediately. I sent them my research proposal and wrote a short text stating my situation and that I want to plan things in advance. I asked them if they were interested in my research in case I'd get selected.

To radiuse:

Thanks for your answer. So I will go to chose either October or April. Hm it's so hard... But I think I will chose April because I finish my Masters in September and I don't really know what to do in between. An internship? But most probably start studying Japanese like a madwoman

hey just wait till Mon yeah? The PIC said they will send out all notifications by then... and she mentioned even if you are not shortlisted, you'll get sth! So no news doesnt mean bad news!

Its bad news. Simply because I don't speak or read japanese apparently. Even though i applied for English courses.

O well. Thanks everyone for the help and thoughts. In a bit.☝

btw, it's my 2nd try this year, but im not giving up yet!

And, you'll only be sure of the verdict by the end of today.

LOL...no no, i've got the letter this morning already. The reason was the exam (i.e. I did not speak or write japanese). ☝

Good luck anyhoos!!!!!!

Hi blurcheryl, mine was afternoon session... the whole interview period was from Tuesday to Friday, so I think we at least need to wait until next Monday. Ahhh I am so nervous >3<
By the way do you know how will Ms Yin inform us about the interview result? By email or by phone call? I am working at singapore so I am afraid Ms Yin wont be able to call my malaysia number during office hr

Ahhhh I forgot to ask her bout this!! Silly me...think I'll have to keep checking my mailbox every now and then and stick to my phone 24/7. But don't worry, I'll inform you if I get any news...even if I get a negative one
Me too...nervous. I'm keeping myself mentally prepared if I don't get the scholarship. But I'm afraid I'll lose my composure anytime soon and go crazy waiting

so sad

I feel devastated, second year i a row applying and i am rejected again

guess there is nothing i can do but swallow my sadness and go on, maybe next year, which incidentally will be the last time i´ll try, will be better, i hope to be one of the two that get it.

Good luck everyone still waiting, congratulations those who got in. wish me luck for next year
