my new gf is really close with her family, which is cool. i wish i was as close to my parents as she is with hers. but the thing is, to put politely, theyre racist. they dont want her going out with a white guy... they barely say anything to me when im there, they just speak in viet, and give a polite smile when i say hi or bye. im not really sure what i should do, or what i can do...

The options are simple: stick it out or give it up. It is the choice which is difficult.

At the risk of stating the obvious, you might try making your greetings in their language.

Amazing that they are racist yet they live in Australia. Well if you make yourself look like you are a man above reproach whenever you see them they can't complain about you, if you prove yourself as a great guy that is going to look after their daughter and treat her like a lady then their complaints are nothing but empty complaints

I know how you feel, my boyfriends father asked if he would marry me, and my boyfriend replied 'only if you give me your permission' then his father said 'we will talk about it when you get home' which proabably explains why he still isnt here haha.
His mother is very sweet from when I have talked on the phone to her, but Im too scared to talk to his father. Hence the reason why I live in the same city as them and still havent visited.
