nostalgic is a great word to use here, I have totally missed that meaning.
I have never thought that して could be omitted. Before, you kindly have showed omission of で in 簡易平明, maybe this case is somewhat similar. I was thinking, that Kanji is an another way to write words, but seems it is much more complicated than I could imagine.
If possible, kindly, may I ask about meaning of 舞台にする, could it also mean "to make a stage", whereas, "Set in ..." is much more polished translation.
