Was Konoe Fumimaro a descendant of the Fujiwara clan and the head of the Fujiwara? Likewise, what were the circumstances of his death?

When the police would come to arrest the alleged war criminals, where they American or Japanese?

I think quite a lot of Japanese claim Fujiwara ancestry. It's only natural as the Fujiwara clan ruled about 1000 years ago, enough generations away for blood to mix with a good part of the population, especially that the (already numerous) Fujiwaras had hundreds of illegitimate children.

Thank you for your responses, everybody.

I also learned that Konoe Fumitaka, was executed by the Soviets in 1956. I suppose the Konoe were the geneologically superior branch of the Fujiwara descended from the Nakatomi and Fujiwara uja as well as Kamatari himself?

Konoe Fumitaka is a son of Konoe Fumimaro.
He studied in Princeton University. However, it played too much and school is left.
It is First Lieutenant of army, and he is detained in the end of the war in Siberia, and it is prosecuted on the charge of an anti-so hostile act by the Soviet Union criminal law and receives imprisonment punishment of 25 and dies during penal servitude on October 29, 1956.

interesting fella

I just learned about Fumitaka Konoe and I am certainly intrigued. There's a musical in Japan that is based on his life (though i'm not sure how close to reality it may be). In any case, it was nice to know that he was a regular fellow at Princeton. Though he was a golf team captain, and he often delivered messages from Japan to Pres. Roosevelt (hardly a 'regular fellow' type of thing to do), apparently he was not too into studying and had a lot of friends. In fact, one of the friends established a scholarship in Konoe's name for Japanese students to study at Princeton (which I wish they had when I was going to college!). As for his death, it infuriates me to think that he was unable to come home to Japan. The official cause of death is listed as "illness" but you know what that means when you are in the Soviet Union. He was to return to Japan in less than a month, after 25 years of captivity (unfairly I might add) in USSR. It really REALLY makes me HATE USSR even more! that *!@# Stalin!!! but I digress. I'd love to know what REALLY happened to Konoe. then again, I don't really want to know the details of tortures the Russians doubtlessly performed (?) on Konoe.

Its even more ironic that Konoe Fumitaka himself was a Fujiwara. His ancestors had ruled Japan for hundreds and hundreds of years, and had considerable influence for hundreds of years more. The Fujiwara were descended from the Nakatomi uji, which was responsible for Shinto rituals in early Japan in the early Asuka period (552-710). He was captured in 1945, exactly 1,300 years after his ancestor, Nakatomi no Kamatari (Fujiwara no Kamatari) led a coup de tat at court.
