Which phrases would be suitable for the blank?
New York has many ________________ such as the Statue of Liberty, Trinity Church, and so on.
(a) sights (b) sightseeing sites (c) sightseeing places
(d) sightseeing spots (e) sightseeing areas (f) tourist sites
(g) tourist places (h) tourist spots (i) tourist areas

(Japanese: ニューヨークには、自由の女神やトリニティ教会など、多くの観光地がある。)

Thanks in advance.

a is most natural; d and h are also acceptable.
"sights to see" is a fixed phrase often found in that blank, and various adjectives could be used on 'sights' to give the flavor of the city you're describing (picturesque sights, historical sights, interesting sights, etc.)
'points of interest' can also go in the blank.
If you're describing it from a business or economics point of view 'tourist destinations' or 'tourist attractions' can go in the blank.

Hello HIrashin,

All of those are passable - I mean none of them break any rules of grammar or logic or anything. But some of them sound better than others, so it starts to get a bit subjective. If you are making this into a test question it might be good to take a different approach since any of the answers are acceptable.

There is nothing grammatically wrong with sightseeing sights, or sightseeing places, or sightseeing areas. There is a redundancy in "sightseeing sights", but that doesn't make it incorrect, it just makes it a bit clunky.

If you gave that question to 10 different English speakers, and told them to arrange the options in order from best to worst, you would get 10 different answers. Since brevity is usually considered the core of good writing, your best bet would probably be "a", but calling any of the other options incorrect would be overstating the case, I think.

Thanks for your help, Chris and Majestic.
Hmm... interesting.

A is simple and to the point.
D is casual and more conversational.
F, H, and I emphasize that they are for tourists.
The others are not as good in my opinion.
