"kaeru" ?

Hi. I am a South African female who has named her baby boy "Kaeru" based on my understanding that it meant "gift", "frog" and most often as a verb "to return". Could someone confirm this.In addition, I require his name to be written in Japanese.

The only noun "kaeru" is:
蛙 frog (antiquated pronunciation "kawazu," now only used for a certain turn-of-phrase 井の中の蛙 lit. "frog in a well," closely translates to someone who lives under a rock)

These are all verbs:
帰る to go home
孵る to hatch
買える to buy (potential form)
飼える to own a pet (potential form)
変える to change
返る to return/come back
代える to substitute
換える to exchange
替える to replace
還る to send back

None of these are names. I would recommend either changing the child's name, or abandoning the notion that the name is Japanese, to save him embarrassment later in life.
