I was talking with one of the short term exchange students last week. His Japanese is extremely low, and had a problem with jock itch. He had asked me what it was in Japanese, and while my Japanese isn't THAT low, I figured I had a chance to find it in a dictionary. No luck, I kept finding things that didn't work or made no sense. Not sure if he asked a Japanese person yet directly or just will have some spray from the Australia.

That got me to thinking, JRef could REALLY use a basic medical reference section. I did a quick search, and unless I'm missing it, there isn't one that exists.

Basic terms or phrases from a typical phrase book or something I'm sure would be very helpful to people. Sometimes there are different ways of treating things, for example the kanpo cold medicine. Sure there is always the option of trying to find a Japanese person or asking at a drug store, but sometimes it can be an embarrassing issue to the person like above, or for women, going to the store and asking about PMS relief pills or hygiene products is something that can prevent them from even considering trying.

Anyway, I'm probably not the person to put something like this together since I couldn't even figure out "jock itch" and wouldn't want to make a mistake on more serious issues. However, if someone is knowledgeable about medical terms in Japanese, this sort of directory could be very helpful to people I think.

Emoni, I have been asked by another member to inform you that the Japanese term for Jock Itch is 窶堋「窶堙ア窶堋ォ窶堙ア. So there. I have no idea how one goes about treating it as I've never suffered from this torturous (so I've heard) condition myself. 🙂

lol, "asked by another member?" :D

Thanks though, I'll pass the information along next time I see him.

Still though, a JRef medical dictionary or phrase section would be good. i guess we can ad Inkin to the first entry :D

This isn't perfect, but I found this.

pmcguam.com

No kanji, and rather short(can't help but avoid the pun with the url, sorry!), but still of some value for a reference or place to start for some terms.
