JREF Chat 2!

So I'll probably open up the room tonight (Friday) around 9pm EST, 10am J time. I'll also probably open it up the same time tomorrow.

My oldies room open now.

If you have time to kill and like Japanese/Western oldies, you're welcome to join.

username: christie0828 (why? I was just reading Agatha Christie at that time.... )

I couldn't find it D: Oh well next time I guess.
Ah, zannen! I closed the room around 1pm, that about 45 minutes before you wrote your post.

But, I had a nice chat with undrentide-san! Enjoyed it a lot!
Next time, I'll prepare tunes that she likes...

I hope you like what I play, HnH!

I'd like to ask about paltalk...is it safe and everything? I've never used that before and I don't know anything about it :sorry:

@Half-n-Half
I hope we'll be able to chat next time...

@eginege-san
Thank you so much for sharing great music, I was much impressed with your wide range of collection & knowledge! I enjoyed the little chat with you immensely.

@Shizuka142
We've been using paltalk here for chatting sessions, and so far I have not heard any serious problems. As far as you're taking normal precaution (firewall, anti-virus software, etc.) it should be safe.

aaand it is for writing or...it is a voice chat? eeeh I don't know how to express myself xD

It uses both. There is a chat room and a voice chat system.

epigene & undrentide:

Hopefully next time! I like all sorts of music so I'm sure I can "tolerate" whatever you play :music:

it's because I prefer writing...I can think before I make it public
As mentioned, you have the choice of using the microphone or text-chat (chat by typing).

In a music chatroom on Paltalk like mine, participants use the mic to play music and chat among themselves by typing.

In other chatrooms where talking is most important, people will want to hear your voice, tho you can tell them you don't have a mic and insist on typing text.

It's quite fun, tho it takes time to find chatrooms to your liking. In such a case, you can create your own chatroom.

My music chatroom has opened.

Goodbye Paltalk Express - Paltalk Blog

The theme for tonight is Showa Kayou (Japanese oldies of the Showa Period), mainly songs from the 60s and 70s.

I also take requests for any type of music, so long as I find it in my collection.

Anyone not allergic to the music is welcome to join.

Room's open, although admittedly I will be distracted by other things and may not respond quickly. But you should come anyway! Get on the mic if I'm not responding!

I'm up pretty early today (got up at 7:00am, Hah!) and decided I might as well open the chat for our European/Asian timezone friends. Of course, if you are up early like me too in America you can join as well!

Do you guys want an IRC chat? You could connect to the server & channel with mibbit if you don't have an IRC client.

A bit late, but I opened up the room. Z's Jref Chat under Miscellaneous. Client is Paltalk.

I had thought of mentioning IRC in here, but I don't know what server we could use.

Why change from PalTalk ?

It's on 24/7 and free. You can use a webcam if you want. Once in a great while they have server overload , but for the most part , it's trouble free & SPAM free. If you want to pay for some extras you can. All you need is a mic to talk or , you can just type. A headset gives better sound quality then speakers, at least to my ears. I got a headset with mic at Radio Shack for about $12 US. Paying members get better results for using and watching webcams.

I would have to disagree with the Spam free, When I signed up for paltalk I felt that they spammed me to pay for the extra features. On top of that IRC is also free, easy to use, and in about 3 years of using it, I have never experienced downtime (save the occasional netsplit, but that is not really downtime) it is all textbased and can be used in any operating system, thanks to the site mibbit, and many IRC clients, many of which are multi-platform. The only big difference is there is no audio or video.

I am not saying I would be opposed to the continued use of Paltalk. I simply think IRC is better, as the room is always open, even if the owner of the channel is offline.

Personally, I'm down for anything that attracts the most visitors. The fact that IRC can be open 24/7 without me being there is attractive. I'll look into mibbit. Know any other clients? I used mIRC awhile back, but didn't like it so much.

I personally use irssi, but that is specifically designed for the linux terminal.
I cannot name many off the top of my head but wikipedia has a good list right here
Internet Relay Chat - Wikipedia

A few notable ones are mIRC, Xchat, and Mibbit.com

Pidgin is also very popular because you can use other popular IM's through it (YIM, AIM, MSN, Skype.)

Thanks. I liked mibbit the most and will use that one. I'll set up a channel here shortly and update the thread when I'm done.

EDIT: OK, so I've set up the channel. You can get to it by going here: http://chat.mibbit.com/

Type in a nickname in the first box (the one that says IRC: Mibbit [webirc]) and enter the channel name, #JREFChat. It should work. If that doesn't let me know.

If you would rather use a different client the server can be found at irc.mibbet.net and the room is of course #JREFChat

I've tried entering. How do you log out?

It seems nice for text-based chat, but how about people who want to use the mic? (Not that I want to... )

Well it would appear you figured out how to leave, for those of you who don't know, to leave you simply type '/quit'. i am sorry to say that there is no audio or video chats in IRC but we do still have the paltalk room, which can still be used when it is open.

In my mind the main point of the IRC chat is to have a chat constantly open for people who want to chat when the paltalk room is not open.
