JLPT grammar!! ～文法～

Hello all,
I just finished doing last year's JLPT test to see how I would do, and it occurred to me that I have major difficulties with the grammar part. Especially the silly words like 「～がてら」, 「～のいかんでは」 and the like. So my original idea was to ask you guys if you had any nice tips or links for learning them. Instead, I found some interesting links myself, which could be useful to anyone learning Japanese.

Hm. I have to say that the example sentences of the first two links aren't what you might call of a high level in a sense that many sentences are pretty childish. Sorry about that. (relief)

And some sentences contain minor Kanji mistakes too.. I haven't found any grammatical mistakes though.. Not yet anyway.

You'll find some good example sentences on JGram.org too. I'm using them to practice for level 2.

Are you taking level 1 or 2? I thought about taking level one back in August, but decided to go with level two, level one seems pretty 無理 even for native Japanese. >.<

Level one is definitely not 無理 (impossible) for native Japanese speakers. Personally, I think there definitely something wrong with you if you can't pass the test as a native Japanese..

I'm taking level 2. And you're right about level 1 being 無理 for many Japanese. I knew a Japanese doctor in Japan who took one look at the level 1 and thought 無理！

Its been my experience too that some Japanese will react that way, but I think that's more an expression of modesty/failiure to understand the test. Native Japanese should get 100% on the listening and should have little problem with the reading section. Most should be able to ace the kanji section as well, since no writing is involved and it only tests reading skills. Compared to the 漢字検定, the JLPT is a walk in the park, and high number of high school graduates should be able to complete level 2 of that test, when the kanji section of JLPT 1級 would be more equivalent to level 5 of the 漢字検定 in terms of difficulty (although not easily comparable).

The only part that could be tricky is the grammar, a lot of the stuff on level one (I've heard) is seldom if ever used. But even so, just from having a good feel of the language, educated guessing should make it not too bad.

I also imagine that many Japanese, just to make other feel better about the difficulty of the test they are doing, say that of course it would be 無理 for them. Its just an extension of the すごい、挨拶が出来るなんて feeling.

Level 1 isn't 無理 by any stretch of the imagination. Plenty of people pass level 1 with only minimal competency in Japanese.

Perhaps some native speakers would have a little trouble on the grammar section if they took it without any studying, but a modicum of preparation would soon rectify that.
